なぜ桃の節句というのか？
旧暦の3月3日は桃の季節でもありますが、それだけで「桃の節句」になったわけではないそうです。
昔から桃には邪気を祓う力があるとされています。
様々な神事に取り入れられていたので、邪気祓いをする上巳の節句が桃の節句になったようです。
また、桃は不老長寿を与える植物とされています。
百歳（ももとせ）まで長生きできるよう、桃の節句には桃花酒を飲む風習もあったそうです。
